Mr. Whiteasked the Secretary of State for War whether the additional facilities now being provided at main line terminal stations for the benefit of service men, will be carried out at the expense of the railway companies or the taxpayer?
§ Mr. EdenIn any case where railway companies concerned feel they are unable to surrender additional accommodation required by the War Office on payment of a nominal rent, accommodation will be paid for by the War Office on the basis laid down in the Compensation (Defence) Act, 1939. The War Office will also bear the expense of any necessary alterations to the accommodation.
