§ Mr. Parkerasked the Minister of Supply the number and names of the squares and open spaces owned by the Metropolitan borough councils from which the railings have been removed; and what steps he is taking to hasten action in this matter?
§ Mr. Harold MacmillanIn some 15 cases in Islington, Camberwell and Lambeth the borough councils have scheduled for removal the railings round spaces in their ownership. The matter is being closely pursued with other Metropolitan borough councils. I would remind my hon. Friend that the Metropolitan borough councils own only about 15 per cent. of the squares in their area and that due regard has to be paid to public safety where triangles or islands are concerned.
