HC Deb 06 August 1940 vol 363 cc51-2W
Sir J. Lamb

asked the Minister of Supply what is the estimated weight and value of paper consumed annually in connection with greyhound racing tracks in Great Britain up to the latest convenient date?

Mr. Harold Macmillan

I regret that information on which to base an estimate such as my hon. Friend desires is not available.

Sir J. Wardlaw-Milne

asked the Minister of Supply whether his attention has been drawn to the amount of paper wasted by advertising on hoardings at railway stations and other public places; and whether, in view of the urgent need for economy, he will take steps to reduce the amount of paper available for this purpose, which also entails much expenditure on printing?

Mr. Macmillan

The use of new paper for poster printing is already severely restricted. Printing on the backs of old posters and on paper specially prepared for poster printing before 27th May is, in general, free from these restrictions.
