HC Deb 10 October 1939 vol 352 c200W
Mr. Parker

asked the Secretary of State for War whether he will consider granting free passes to soldiers on leave to visit invalid children away from home?

Mr. Hore-Belisha

I have already announced to the House that a free warrant will be issued to all ranks serving in France granted leave after certain periods of service there, and troops in this country will also be granted a free warrant for leave prior to embarkation for overseas. For other journeys on leave in this country, troops will be able to use the concession vouchers issued by the railways which provide for a return journey at single fare.

If the hon. Member means that, instead of taking a free warrant to go home, the soldier should take it to visit a sick child elsewhere, I have no doubt that this could be arranged.
