HC Deb 04 October 1939 vol 351 cc1981-2W
Mr. Malcolm MacMillan

asked the Minister of Transport whether, in view of the growing tourist industry in the Islands and Highlands of Scotland, he will now consider granting substantial financial aid to the county councils of Ross and Inverness for the construction of a West Coast road linking Mallaig and Kyle of Lochalsh?

Captain Wallace:

This would be a very expensive scheme, and I am not satisfied that even under normal conditions the cost could be justified. In present circumstances I can hold out no hope of financial assistance.
