HC Deb 04 October 1939 vol 351 cc1982-3W
Captain Strickland

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he is aware that in the case of road transport vehicles requisitioned by the State on or after the first day of any month, the refund of licence fees already paid is only allowed from the beginning of the succeeding month, thus entailing financial loss to the operator; and whether he will order the return of the proportion of licence fee for the full period during which the operator is deprived of the use of the vehicles?

Captain Crookshank:

Where proof is given that a vehicle has been requisitioned by the State and taken out of control of its owner, arrangements have been made that if the licence is surrendered on, or before, the 7th of the month, the licence duty for that month will be refunded in full, and if the licence is surrendered after the 7th but not later than the 22nd of the month, half the licence duty for that month will be refunded.
