HC Deb 04 October 1939 vol 351 c1979W
Mr. Trevor Cox

asked the Minister of Labour whether he has any plans for dealing with the possible increase in unemployment amongst black-coated workers not included in any pension schemes?

Mr. E. Brown:

I assume the hon. Member has in mind those non-manual workers whose annual rate of pay exceeds £ 250 per annum. The machinery of the Employment Exchange Service provides a ready means of putting unemployed persons in touch with suitable vacancies and I am considering whether any special arrangements should be devised for the type of worker the hon. Member has in mind. As regards assistance during unemployment, I am sending the hon. Member a copy of a leaflet showing the provision available for persons who are outside the Unemployment Insurance scheme and the ordinary Unemployment Assistance scheme.
