HC Deb 21 November 1939 vol 353 cc1062-3W
Captain Plugge

asked the Secretary of State for War what is the present approximate number or proportion of retired Regular Army officers on the various reserves who are under the age of 55 and who have not yet been recalled and allocated to some war appointment?

Mr. Hore-Belisha

About five out of eight officers of the Regular Army Reserve of Officers under the age of 55 have been recalled. Many of those who have not been recalled are unavailable for various reasons, such as residence abroad, addresses unknown, reserved and delayed liabilities, temporary unfitness or because they are not suitable. I am unable to give similar figures for the Army Officers Emergency Reserve.
