HC Deb 25 May 1939 vol 347 cc2544-5W
Sir R. Glyn

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Board of Education what advice has been given by the Board to local education authorities concerning schoolmasters who wish to join some branch of His Majesty's Forces; whether he is aware that some local authorities are informing would-be applicants that, in view of the increased duties that will devolve upon teachers in time of emergency, and the fact that they would not, therefore, be available for duty with the Territorial or other units, it would be inadvisable for them to apply to recruiting offices; and, as teachers in all parts of the county are as anxious as others to respond to the national appeal for service, and, to secure uniformity, steps will be taken to issue instructions to all local authorities forthwith?

Mr. Lindsay

A circular on this subject will be issued in a few days.
