§ Sir R. Glynasked the Postmaster-General what instructions have been given to the district officers in regard to the facilities to be given to postmen who are anxious to join units of the Territorial Army; whether he is aware that in some cases Post Office messenger boys and postmen have informed local recruiting 2548W officers that they are desirous of joining but are being discouraged from so doing by their immediate superiors; and whether arrangements have been made for Post Office officials, now pensioned, to take the places of those who are accepted for service in one branch or other of the forces should an emergency arise?
§ Major TryonPost Office controlling officers have instructions to give every encouragement to Post Office servants who desire to join units of the Territorial Army and I am not aware that postmen and boy messengers have been discouraged from so doing. I do not anticipate any difficulty in replacing, either by the re-employment of pensioners or in other ways, any such men called up for active service.
