HC Deb 25 May 1939 vol 347 c2531W
Mr. Kennedy

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what reply he has made to the representations of the retail motor trade in connection with the additional horse-power tax in view of the anticipated loss of revenue due to the threatened abandonment of replacement orders in favour of cars of smaller horse-power?

Sir J. Simon

I received a deputation from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders on Tuesday and promised to examine the views they put before me. I may add that in the Estimates presented with my Budget due allowance was made for all relevant considerations.
