HC Deb 25 May 1939 vol 347 c2530W
Mr. Kirkwood

asked the Minister of Labour whether his attention has been drawn to the concession granted by employers on the Clyde to their apprentices that the six months' training shall be included in their apprenticeship, with the result that boys who have served 4½ years' apprenticeship will, when they return after their military training, start as journeymen; and if he will approach other employers with a view to obtaining a similar concession?

Mr. E. Brown

I have no official information that a decision of the kind suggested has been reached; but I am glad to be able to say that this question is receiving consideration in the engineering and other industries. I feel sure that as a result of this consideration, equitable arrangements will be made in the various industries to meet the new circumstances.
