HC Deb 17 May 1939 vol 347 cc1420-1W
Mr. Edwards

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he has inquired into the stocks of pig iron and whether he is satisfied that the present rate of production is adequate for any national emergency?

Mr. Cross

As the hon. Member was informed on 4th April, the Board of Trade have the stock position of pig iron under constant review. The rate of production is steadily increasing and there is no reason to suppose that productive capacity is not adequate for essential needs.
