HC Deb 17 May 1939 vol 347 c1421W
Sir G. Mitcheson

asked the President of the Board of Trade what increase in exports to the United States of America has taken place since the Anglo-American Trade Agreement came into operation as compared with the exports to that country during the corresponding period a year ago?

Mr. Cross

During the first three months of 1939, exports of United Kingdom goods consigned to the United States were valued at £6,885,000, representing an increase of £1,922,000 as compared with the first quarter of 1938. The corresponding figures for re-exports to the United States were £1,951,000 and £319,000, respectively. It should be borne in mind that exports to the United States were at an unusually low level at the beginning of 1938.
