Mr. Daggar

asked the Secretary for Mines whether he will state the quantity of coal produced; the amount per person employed below ground; and the amount per person employed in the mining industry in Great Britain during 1938?

Mr. Lloyd

In 1938, the output of saleable coal in Great Britain was 227,015,308 tons; the output of coal per person employed below ground was 369 tons, and per person employed above and below ground 287 tons.

Mr. Paling

asked the Secretary for Mines whether he will state the total production of coal in Yorkshire for the years 1937 and 1938; the amount of such productions sold in the home market; and the amount exported in each of the above years?
