HC Deb 09 March 1939 vol 344 c2368W
Mr. Edwards

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he is now able to give an undertaking that he will not, in his coming Budget, add to direct taxation, which bears most heavily on working people and unemployed?

Sir J. Simon

I rather suspect that the word "direct" in the hon. Member's question should be "indirect," but in any case I can only refer him to the answer I gave him to his question on 23rd February.
