HC Deb 09 March 1939 vol 344 cc2377-8W
Mr. E. J. Williams

asked the First Commissioner of Works whether Messrs. Sunleys, contractors, have ceased operations at the Bridgend Royal Arsenal; if he can state the number of workmen affected; and whether there is immediate prospect of their resuming employment?

Sir P. Sassoon

Messrs. B. Suniey & Company, Limited, who were carrying out civil engineering work as sub-contractors to one of the main contractors at the Royal Ordnance Factory at Bridgend, suspended work on Friday last. Of the 716 men employed by them at that date, 500 have already been re-engaged by the main contractors, and arrangements are being made for a further 156 to be taken back immediately.
