HC Deb 09 March 1939 vol 344 c2374W
Captain Graham

asked the Secretary of State for War whether he is aware that on mobilisation, a married private soldier in the Territorial Army, after the deduction of the compulsory allowance for his wife, will only have 6d. per diem Army pay; and whether he will take steps to improve this rate of pay, which is inadequate and unjust?

Sir V. Warrender

The scale of compulsory allotments from pay was modified in September, 1938, in the case of married soldiers in receipt of low rates of pay, to such an extent as was necessary to allow the soldier to retain a sum of is a day after the deduction of the allotment.
