HC Deb 09 March 1939 vol 344 c2374W
Sir R. Wells

asked the Secretary of State for War how much a captain of a line regiment received on promotion to captain prior to the new regulation for promotion; and what the rate is to-day?

Sir V. Warrender

Under the new conditions of service, an officer of a line regiment is promoted to captain at eight years' service, if qualified and recommended, and is entitled to daily rates of pay of 16s. 6d., 19s., and £1 3s. 6d., after 8, 11 and 14 years' service respectively. Previously, such an officer, on promotion to captain, received pay at the rate of 19s. a day, but might have had to wait much longer for promotion. He received pay of £1 3s. 6d. a day after 15 years' service.
