§ Sir I. Alberyasked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Board of Education whether he is prepared to recommend some change in the provision of milk for schoolchildren which will ensure a larger number of the poorer children obtaining this benefit?
Mr. LindsayThe Board have under review the arrangements made by local education authorities for the provision of free milk for necessitous undernourished schoolchildren, and in cases where it appears that the arrangements are inadequate the matter is brought to the notice of the authorities. If the powers for this purpose possessed by authorities under Sections 82 to 84 of the Education Act, 1921, are fully utilised, there is no reason why any necessitous undernourished children should not receive the benefit of free milk.
