HC Deb 02 March 1939 vol 344 cc1489-90W
Mr. Hopkin

asked the Minister of Agriculture whether he has received a report from his inspector on the drainage of the Gwendraeth Valley; and when this report will be available?

Sir R. Dorman-Smith

One of my officers has visited the Gwendraeth Valley and it appears that the water-logged condition of the valley is due largely to the silting up of the river channel, chiefly with coal dust from collieries which I understand are now no longer in operation, although subsidiary causes of the flooding are the inflow of tidal water and the existence of obstructions in the river. It is not the practice to publish reports made by my officers.
