HC Deb 02 March 1939 vol 344 c1490W
Sir T. Rosbotham

asked the Minister of Agriculture whether, in view of the fact that in each of the past four years imports of flax have exceeded £4,000,000, he will consider in the Government's long-term policy for agriculture the encouragement of flax-growing in parts of Great Britain where conditions are known to be favourable to this crop?

Sir R. Dorman-Smith

Experiments in flax-growing are at present being carried out in this country, including both private ventures and an experiment in Norfolk under the auspices of the Linen Industry Research Association. The results of these experiments are being carefully watched.
