HC Deb 04 July 1939 vol 349 c1136W
Mr. T. Smith

asked the Minister of Health whether he is aware that some officers of the Loughborough Council have had their motor cars cleaned in the time and at the expense of the local authority; that, as a result of strong protests, this practice has been discontinued and charges for such cleaning are now being imposed; and whether, in the interests of good government, he will take steps to ensure that the Loughborough Council cease the practice of cleaning private motor cars, whether payment is received or not?

Mr. Elliot

The matter is not one in which I have any authority to intervene. I have, however, made inquiries from the Loughborough Town Council and I understand that the arrangements for the cleaning of cars which are used for official business were made with the express consent of the responsible committees of the council.
