HC Deb 04 July 1939 vol 349 c1142W
Mr. Hammersley

asked the Prime Minister whether he will take all possible steps to induce the Soviet Government to make the autonomous Jewish State of Birobidjan available for Jewish refugees and, in particular, will he ask the British Ambassador in Moscow to inquire from the Soviet authorities what progress is being made with the development of this State; how many Jewish refugees have been accepted into the territory during the last 12 months; and will the Soviet Government co-operate with the refugee organisation under the League of Nations?

Mr. Butler

I have at present nothing to add to the answer which I gave to my hon. Friend on 27th June.
