HC Deb 04 July 1939 vol 349 c1128W
Mr. Leonard

asked the Secretary of State for War to what extent herring are included in the dietary of the Army?

Sir V. Warrender

At home stations, herring are bought out of the messing cash allowance in accordance with the wishes of the troops. At many stations abroad, where fish has to some extent to be supplied in tins, tinned herring are issued in considerable quantity.
