Morrisonasked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Board of Education whether the Board has given its approval to the acquisition by the Beckenham Borough Council, under compulsory powers, of the site of 1.85 acres for school purposes at the junction of Kingswood and May's Hill roads, Short-lands; whether the site has been acquired; if so, what was the price paid; for what purpose the land had been used; and what was its rateable value previous to acquisition?
Mr. LindsayThe Board confirmed a compulsory purchase order for the acquisition of this site on 17th August, 1937. The site was, however, acquired by agreement on 15th February, 1939, the price paid being £3,250. The land had previously formed part of a private estate 595W and consisted of lawns, stabling, tennis courts and kitchen gardens. The rateable value was £30 gross, £22 net.
