HC Deb 14 December 1939 vol 355 c1324W
Mr. Leslie

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether he is aware of the recent proceedings of the town council of Aberdeen whereby members of the council who are shopkeepers, or members of the local co-operative society, or whose wives are members of the local co-operative society were all debarred from voting on the question of the extension of shopping hours on the ground that they were interested parties, thus leaving the council without a quorum; that the lord provost, himself a shopkeeper, thereupon decided in favour of extending the opening hours of shops; and whether he will cause an inquiry to be made?

Mr. Colville

My attention has already been drawn to the proceedings referred to and I am in communication with the town council on the subject.
