HC Deb 14 December 1939 vol 355 cc1274-5W
Sir J. Lucas

asked the Secretary of State for War whether the rate of Army retired pay, which was reduced before the outbreak of the present war, owing to the fall in the cost of living, is now being raised again for the same reason; and, if not, when it is proposed to do so?

Sir V. Warrender

Rates of Army retired pay were stabilised in 1935 in accordance with the Government decision relating to the pay and pensions of the Defence Services and the Civil Service, and the rates are not now variable with the cost of living.
