HC Deb 14 December 1939 vol 355 c1274W
Mr. De la Bère

asked the Secretary of State for War whether he is aware that soldiers stationed at Norton Barracks, Worcestershire, are at present accommodated under unsatisfactory conditions; and will he look into the matter with a view to improving these conditions and expediting the erection of the additional accommodation required?

Sir V. Warrender

Part of the unit is still accommodated in store tents, but these are fitted with floors, fireplaces, electric light and low sandbag walls to exclude draughts. The first of the new huts will be ready on 20th December, and it is anticipated that all men will be in barracks or huts by the middle of February next. Staff and medical officers from Command Headquarters have visited the unit and have questioned a number of men. There were no complaints, and the health of those who are in tents is reported to be excellent.
