HC Deb 14 December 1939 vol 355 c1336W
Mr. Isaacs

asked the Secretary of State for Air why permission was given to the British Broadcasting Corporation to broadcast a story of the New Zealand pilots' flight over North-West Germany whilst at the same time publication of this information in the newspapers was prohibited.

Captain Balfour

The hon. Member is, I think, under a misapprehension. The flight in question was made on 27th November, and a short bulletin announcing it was issued on the following day. A longer bulletin was issued on 29th November followed later on the same day by a third bulletin describing the flight in considerable detail and including personal accounts of incidents by two pilots engaged. The broadcast was not given until 6th December.
