HC Deb 14 December 1939 vol 355 c1333W
Sir Ralph Glyn

asked the Minister of Agriculture what steps have been taken, in co-operation with the National Federation of Women's Institutes, to encourage the growing of foodstuffs, and their exchange and marketing; and whether he wi11 issue to all concerned a copy of the regulations drawn up by Lord Ernle, when Minister of Agriculture, as indicating the lines along which the women's institutes used to increase the production of home produce?

Sir R. Dorman-Smith

The Ministry of Agriculture works in close association with the National Federation of Women's Institutes, and is represented on the executive committee of that body. A special grant in respect of the formation of a produce guild is made, and plans for the extension of that organisation in connection with the campaign for increased food production are now under discussion with the federation. As to the latter part of the question, I have been unable to trace the regulations to which my hon. Friend refers.
