Morrisonasked the Attorney-General whether he is aware that insurance and friendly societies are serving forfeiture notices upon policy holders who have been called up as reservists and are over eight weeks in arrears with their contributions; and, in view of the hardship which this will involve to many members of the services, whether he will issue an order protecting their interests?
§ Mr. Lunnasked the Attorney-General whether he is aware that many insurance policies are being lapsed by insurance companies at the present time because of the inability of their clients to pay the premiums; whether or not the Government have taken, or are intending to take, steps to safeguard the interests of such persons; or whether the companies have done anything in the matter?
§ The Attorney-GeneralNegotiations between Government offices and life insurance offices, which have necessarily taken some time, have been concluded recently, and a scheme has been evolved which will afford substantial protection to policy holders who find themselves in difficulties owing to war conditions. This will be considered by the Government very shortly and a decision reached on this matter, the importance of which to many policy holders is appreciated. I have no knowledge of widespread forfeiture notices being served, though this aspect of the matter is receiving consideration and I should be glad of any particulars.
