§ Mr. Richardsasked the Secretary for Mines whether he has received a report of the inspection under Section 16 of the Coal Mines Act, 1911, which was carried out in the Martin's district of Gresford colliery on the 16th of May this year, and whether, in view of the reported presence of inflammable gas there and the firing of shots in the vicinity, any action has been taken to avoid the risk of ignition by improving the ventilation or by a stricter supervision of shot-firing in that district of the mine?
§ Mr. LloydI have received a copy of the report made by the workmen's representatives. It records that they detected2186W inflammable gas at the edge of the waste while shot-firing was in progress on the adjoining face, although there is no definite evidence that any shot was illegally fired, and the gas found was immediately cleared by erecting brattice. Appropriate action was taken.
