HC Deb 20 April 1939 vol 346 c510W
Mr. W. Roberts

asked the Prime Minister whether he is aware that a protest was lodged with the League of Nations by the Albanian Government against the Italian invasion of Albania on Good Friday; and whether the protest was received by M. Avenol, the Secretary-General, but not accepted?

Mr. Butler

I understand that the Albanian Chargéd'Affaires at Paris addressed to the Secretary-General of the League a communication dated 8th April, but apparently posted on 11th April, asking for an immediate meeting of the Council. The Secretary-General replied that on 8th April the Albanian Government could have made this communication either direct or through then-representative at Geneva and that in the circumstances the letter from the Chargéd'Affaires could not be regarded as constituting an appeal in virtue of the Covenant.
