§ Mr. Lipsonasked the Minister of Agriculture whether farmers have yet been told what they should do to increase the supply of home-grown food to meet a national emergency?
§ Sir R. Glynasked the Minister of Agriculture whether he is in a position to make a statement concerning the arrangements he has made, after consultation with county representatives, of the plans for increasing the production of home-grown produce?
§ Sir R. Dorman-SmithAs was indicated in this House by my predecessor, the precise manner in which the campaign for increased home food production in time of war, which forms one part of the Government's plans for food defence, would be carried out, depends on a number of factors, including the time of year when a war broke out and the nature of the struggle in which the country was involved. The Government's plans have, therefore, been prepared in a form which could readily be finally adopted in the light of the circumstances which might exist when war broke out. It would, however, be necessary in any event to increase the area under arable cultivation, and consultations have already taken place with those who will be entrusted with the organisation of the campaign.
