HC Deb 18 April 1939 vol 346 cc186-7W
Mr. Naylor

asked the Secretary of State for War whether he is aware that recruits for the Territorial Army at the Royal Fusiliers' Hall, Bloomsbury, are being interviewed by members of the Women's Auxiliary Service; and whether he will take steps to ensure that such practice shall be discontinued?

Mr. Hore-Belisha

Officers and members of the Auxiliary Territorial Service are, in a number of cases, assisting with the inquiries and clerical work connected with recruiting at Territorial Army Headquarters and information bureaux. I should like to take this opportunity to express my appreciation of the services they are rendering.

Captain Plugge

asked the Secretary of State for War whether, in view of the need for training the large additions to the Territorial Army, he will consider utilising the services of officers who had actual war experience in 1914 to 1918, who have only just recently passed out of the reserve, and who are still physically fit?

Mr. Hore-Belisha

Yes Sir. Any such officer who is desirous of joining the Territorial Army should make application to the Territorial Army Association concerned and he will be considered for appointment to a commission in the Territorial Army. A number of such officers have already been gazetted to the Territorial Army.
