HC Deb 21 November 1938 vol 341 cc1358-9W
Sir R. Glyn

asked the Minister of Agriculture whether he will give details of the plan for setting up a central and local organisation for the acceleration and increase of the home production of food in the circumstances that prevailed during the last week of September, with a view to informing rural authorities and farmers, whose co-operation is essential to the success of any scheme of the Ministry, and relieving their apprehension?

Mr. W. S. Morrison

It is contemplated that, in the event of war, my Department would be responsible for the carrying out of a campaign for increased home food production. To assist the Department in the exercise of such powers as may be entrusted to the Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries by Parliament in such circumstances, it is proposed to set up County Agricultural Executive Committees in England and Wales. For the reasons I stated during the course of the Debate on 15th November, no good purpose would in my opinion be served by a publication of details of the Government's plans.
