HC Deb 09 May 1938 vol 335 cc1249-50W
Sir R. Glyn

asked the Home Secretary how many foreign Jews have been given leave to land in and to reside in the United Kingdom since the date of the last Census?

Sir S. Hoare:

I would refer my hon. Friend to the reply to a question by my hon. Friend the Member for Cambridge University (Sir J. Withers) on the 2nd instant.

Sir R. Glyn

asked the Home Secretary what is the estimated number of persons of foreign extraction now resident in the United Kingdom?

Sir S. Hoare:

I presume that my hon. and gallant Friend has in mind not only persons who were not themselves British at birth, but also British-born persons of whom the parents or one of the parents was an alien. I know of no statistics which would enable me to supply the desired information.
