HC Deb 04 May 1938 vol 335 cc883-4W
Captain Bullock

asked the Minister of Transport whether his attention has been called to the efficacy of the pedestrian crossings in certain foreign cities in so far as these crossings are provided with illuminated studs in the roadway itself showing red or green according to whether the pedestrians may use them or not; and whether similar crossings can be provided in the principal cities of this country?

Mr. Burgin:

My attention has been drawn to the use of illuminated studs at some pedestrian crossings in Paris, which are, I understand, intended primarily for the guidance of drivers. I am not satisfied, on the information before me, that these studs afford any benefit to pedestrians over the method now employed for their guidance at certain signal-controlled crossings in this country.
