HC Deb 04 May 1938 vol 335 c890W
Sir W. Brass

asked the Minister of Transport whether his attention has been called to the decision of the Cheshire County Council to print in red on all motor drivers' licences to be issued by the council the number of persons killed and injured on the roads in the previous year; and on what grounds the county council are making this addition to the form ct the drivers' licence without his approval?

Mr. Burgin:

I think that my hon. and gallant Friend is under a misapprehension. I understand that the Cheshire County Council are issuing with driving licences a separate leaflet giving the road casualty figures in their area for the year 1937 and appealing for help in reducing them by the display of courtesy, consideration and carefulness on the part of all users of the road. I have much sympathy with this experiment. I am sure that my hon. and gallant Friend will appreciate as I do the motives which have prompted this action on the part of the council.
