§ Mr. Hepworthasked the Secretary of State for Dominion Affairs whether his attention has been called to the recent 1105W increased imports into South Africa of cheap Japanese clothing mostly made of imitation wool; and whether, in view of the potential menace of this development, both to the South African wool industry and to the Bradford woollen trade, he will approach His Majesty's Government in the Union of South Africa with a view to taking remedial action?
Lord StanleyI have no information of a recent increase in imports into South Africa of cheap Japanese clothing, but, if my hon. Friend will communicate to me any information which he has on the subject, I will consider, in consultation with my right hon. Friend, the President of the Board of Trade, whether any action in the matter could usefully be taken so far as United Kingdom interests are concerned.
