asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Board of Education whether he can indicate the recent development in the utilisation of radio in schools to date and the present number of listening schools in England and Wales?

Mr. Lindsay:

The development in the use of radio in schools in England and

Wales is indicated by the increase during recent years in the number of schools registered as listening schools by the Central Council for School Broadcasting. The following figures show the position in April of each year:

The number of registered listening schools on 27th May last was 8,477.
