HC Deb 02 June 1938 vol 336 c2260W
Major Neven-Spence

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether he will consult with the Herring Industry Board, with a view to meeting the industry by agreeing to fix the 9th June as the starting date for curing in Shetland, in the interests of the fishermen and fish-curers of Shetland?

Mr. Wedderburn:

My right hon. Friend has conveyed the hon. Member's suggestion to the Herring Industry Board and he is informed that as their decision not to permit curing in Shetland before 14th June was arrived at after the fullest consideration of representations made on the question from all points of view, they regret that they do not feel justified in altering their decision.
