§ Sir S. HoareThis unfortunate accident did not occur in premises under the Factory Acts, but on an escalator used by customers at a shop. I understand that the child, who was travelling on the escalator with his mother, turned sideways and put the toe of his shoe into a small space between the steps and the side framework. The escalator stopped automatically but it took some time to extricate the child's foot. I understand that the escalator was of a usual type and that there was a notice reminding customers to keep in the centre of the steps.
