Mr. Alexander

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he will state the number of square yards of carpet of the type covered in Cmd. 5656, imported into this country in the year 1937; what were the principal countries from which the imports were received; and the quantities and values in each case?

Captain Wallace

During the year 1937 the total imports into the United Kingdom of carpets, carpeting and rugs of wool, cotton, jute and hair, other than hand-made knotted carpets, amounted to 5,279,000 square yards.
