HC Deb 09 February 1938 vol 331 cc1073-4W
Mr. Leach

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether, in view of the continuance of Arab outrages in Palestine under the encouragement of the Grand Mufti while the scheme for a settlement is still under consideration, he will make it clear that he will not proceed with partition and other concessions to the Arabs which nullify the promised Jewish home?

Mr. Ormsby-Gore

I cannot accept the suggestion of my hon. Friend. His Majesty's Government regard the policy of partition as the best means by which, in existing circumstances, the promise regarding the establishment of a Jewish National Home in Palestine can be implemented. The continuance of acts of terrorism in Palestine will not deter His Majesty's Government from the further inquiries necessary to prepare a definite scheme in accordance with the resolution passed by this House.
