HC Deb 09 February 1938 vol 331 c1070W
Captain Balfour

asked the Under-Secretary of State for Air whether, in the case of Royal Air Force stations such as Mansion, where insufficient married quarters exist and the station is inaccessible, he will consider making allowances to non-commissioned officers and airmen who are entitled to these quarters but are unable to obtain them, for the purpose of assisting the cost of transport by public or private vehicle from lodgings to the station and return after duty?

Lieut.-Colonel Muirhead

Temporary emergency arrangements for the conveyance of Royal Air Force personnel at isolated stations between home and place of duty are made where there is a shortage of local housing facilities and when public transport presents difficulties. The case of Manston was not considered to fulfil the necessary conditions for this special treatment.

Captain Balfour

asked the Under-Secretary of State for Air whether it is contemplated to make additional married quarters for non-commissioned officers and airmen at Royal Air Force stations?

Lieut.-Colonel Muirhead

The provision of married quarters for non-commissioned officers and airmen up to the entitlement of the permanent establishment at all Royal Air Force stations has been and is being given first priority.
