HC Deb 21 December 1938 vol 342 c2921W
Mr. Leonard

asked the Minister of Transport whether he will state in miles the proportion of new roads to reconditioned roads in the plan of highway development announced in 1935 and the same details for Scotland?

Mr. Burgin

I regret that I am unable to furnish the particulars asked for by the hon. Member. The programmes submitted by highway authorities do not give the information.

Mr. Leonard

asked the Minister of Transport what proportion of the five years' highway development plan, anounced in 1935, has been completed, and the amount expended to date?

Mr. Burgin

The total expenditure, to 30th November, 1938, on schemes included in the five years programmes of highway authorities amounts to about £28¼ millions which represents about 27½ per cent. of the total estimated cost of schemes approved up to that date.
