HC Deb 21 December 1938 vol 342 c2906W
Mr. Hopkin

asked the Minister of Agriculture whether he is aware that, owing to the flooding of the River Gwendraeth, Carmarthenshire, 3,000 acres of land has deteriorated from good land to bog; that houses in Pontyates, as well as the public hall, regularly are flooded by water from this river; and will he send an officer to the county to advise the local authorities of the best means of bringing back this derelict land to production, and of preventing the flooding?

Mr. Ramsbotham

My right hon. Friend has no recent information about the conditions prevailing in the valley of the River Gwendraeth. The matter is not one for which he is responsible, but he is giving instructions for an early inspection to be made by one of his officers in order to discover whether there is any action which might usefully be taken by his Department.
