Thomsonasked the Minister of Transport whether the railway companies' tariff is on the same basis for weight for the transport of fish from Aberdeen, Hull, Grimsby, and Fleetwood; whether his attention has been drawn to the practice of accepting computed weights at the three last-named ports; and whether, as this practice gives an advantage of 10 per cent, or more over the actual weights as charged in Aberdeen, he will confer with the companies concerned with a view to devising a remedy?
§ Mr. BurginI understand that the railway companies have already made arrangements as from 2nd January to accept computed weights of fish packed in boxes of standard sizes at Aberdeen, as is the practice at other large ports. With reference to the last part of the question I am informed that this arrangement 2921W offers no advantage as regards charges and its object is the facilitation of despatch of large quantities in limited time.
